Residential Visits - Information for Parents
Y2 Peckwood
We have used this centre for Y2 children for the last 5 years. It is a small centre which accommodates one school at any given time. Peckwood is 20 minutes away near Alvechurch, it has several buildings for us to use including separate dormitories for boys and girls. Both dormitories have a connecting door into the teachers’ bedroom. The setting is perfect for Y2 children as we have a complete woodland to explore and many of the activities link to those that the children will complete at Forest School when they are in Year 3.

Y3 Blackwell Adventure
Chilcote has been using Blackwell for the last 20 years with Y4 pupils staying in tents. However, this residential experience is for our Y3 children this year. Blackwell have also updated their accommodation and our children will now be sleeping in wooden pods on bunk beds, usually 4 children to a pod. Most of the cooking will be organised by myself, however a meal from the local fish and chip shop will be on one of the two evenings. The activities planned include tree trekking, archery, a very long zip wire, swimming (in an outdoor pool) climbing wall, problem solving, camp-fire, orienteering and many more.

This has always been our year 6 trip for almost 30 years, however now this amazing experience will be offered to Year 5. Red Ridge is in the heart of Wales (a 30 minute drive from the town of Welshpool) Year 5 children will spend 3 nights here sleeping in dormitories of about 6. All of the food is all cooked by staff at the centre and includes a cooked breakfast each morning. The adventurous activities include climbing and abseiling on a real rock face, caving in an artificial and real cave, kayaking on a lake, canoeing on a canal, cycling, hill walking and orienteering. It really is an amazing trip!

Year 6 St Ives
We are trying something new with year 6 children. When Mrs Doherty first arrived at Chilcote she was amazed at all the residential experiences on offer here, however she has always believed that children should also have an opportunity to try other challenges and be near the sea. The centre that Chilcote will be using is in the centre of the small town of St Ives. St Ives is in North Cornwall and it has 2 main sandy beaches. The children will sleep in small dormitories and will have some meals in the centre and one from the local fish and chip shop or other takeaway. The activities included in this visit are surf lessons, bodyboarding, beach games, rock pooling, sandcastle competitions, volleyball and a visit to St Michael’s Mount and Lands’ End. All beach activities will be with a local surf school and lifeguards.
