Community
Chilcote engages with the community at all levels; you’ll see that the initiatives and activities we are involved in put us in touch with partners locally, nationally and globally.
Wherever possible the community is used as a resource to enrich the curriculum and to develop the children’s sense of citizenship. Chilcote also strives to offer itself as a resource for its community, through trips and visitors, raising funds for charities, running parental workshops, hosting and organising PTA events, singing in local old people’s homes and working in partnership with other schools and agencies.
International Work
The school has long been engaged in international work and in recognition of this has held an International Award for over ten years.
Wherever possible links are made in the curriculum to other countries through the International Primary Curriculum. The school has engaged with the British Council through Comenius projects which have enabled us to have a teaching assistant from a European country for a year, most recently from Slovenia and before that from Spain. Other Comenius work has linked the school to other countries. The project that finished July 2011 linked the school to other schools in Northern Ireland, Norway, Poland and Romania. We are currently trying to establish a new Comenius project.
ICT has also been used to keep in touch with international partners and the links below take you to previous blogging work.
KINGS HEATH BOYS
Chilcote is affiliated to the Kings Heath Boys School Sports Partnership which aims to ‘build a brighter future for young people through PE and sport’.
The partnership ensures that children from Years 1 to 6 take part in competitive events with other schools and provides additional sports coaching for children. As well as the benefits that sports competitions offer the children, the partnership has been great for the professional development of staff through its programme of training.
Parents
Establishing and maintaining positive links with parents is an important element to a child’s education especially when you consider the balance of time a child spends in school and at home.
As well as termly parents evenings and an annual school report parents are able to come into their child’s lessons at least twice a year to observe them learning and to get information about how they can help their child at home. There is also an opportunity at the end of the school year for parents to come in and look through all their child’s work and celebrate it with them. The school runs programmes for parents entitled ‘Keeping Up with the Children' as well as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes for no charge. Please contact the school office for more details.
Parents have helped us a great deal with our 'World at Work' day in Year 6 where they have educated the children about their professions and have told them about the steps needed to do certain jobs. Parent helpers are always very welcome in school both on a regular basis and for assistance on trips.
Blogging
A good way to keep in touch with the school community is through the school’s blog. Parents and visitors to the site can see some of the activities that the children have been involved in and the children of Chilcote are able to add their comments to the posts.

PTA
We have a strong PTA who do much to raise funds for the school and organise social events for parents and the community.
Events have ranged from: a ladies fashion show, quiz nights, Christmas fairs, summer fairs, Christmas discos, Halloween discos. Funds have been used to provide first aid training for Year 6 and improvements to the playground such as a shelter and trim trail.
